It finally snowed.
We got snowshoes for Christmas and we have been three times since. It’s been an abnormally dry winter which has meant extra sunshine and pretty days but less much needed rain and much desired snow. Saturday that changed and the skies opened up, blanketing the entirety of Mt. hood with white for the first time all winter. But the story is better told visually.
Into the snow….
We couldn’t have ordered a more perfect day for snowshoeing on Mt. Hood. This was a rare shot without lines of cars. We weren’t the only ones excited for the first major snow of the season.
Somehow we lucked out and were the first to blaze trails through the snow at White River
Where’s Jonathan?
Our great friend Sara joined us for the fun in the snow, a nice change of pace from our regular weekend long runs.
Utter peace
Am I planning a dive… or maybe cartwheels!
Form…err…still working on that.
Made it.
We blazed our own trail the White River Canyon on Mt. Hood. It was like hiking on pillows and marshmallows.
No falling!
Posing with Mt. Hood. She’s so pretty.
That moment we looked up and decided, yup, let’s do that!
And here we go.
View from the top of our steep climb. Perfect conditions allowed us to climb what will probably not be possible other times of the year.
Fresh tracks
Fresh tracks
One steep ridge with gorgeous views.
Going down equalled a lot of falling and giggling like schoolchildren.
Flying down.
‘Loving every minute because you make me feel so alive.”
Jonathan being Jonathan!
Fresh powder.
Taking a break to laugh, probably about me freaking out halfway up our climb, then realizing all was Ok when Sara said, “If you fall, just slide on your butt.”
Sara hiking through winter wonderland.
A perfect hike.
With one glance at that first photo, my brain sang, “I know where that izz…” to the tune “Ring Around the Rosy.”
